_N5Z0053Near Oleggio I met Marco Casati, who is working in the Colline Novaresi, north of Novara with great enthousiasm, very proud to show his wines. He is one of those recent wineries who started in North Piemonte. Actually his winery is close to Malpensa airport: within 15 minutes after landing you can join him for a glass of wine! He produces Colli Novaresi DOC but also Ghemme DOCG, an excellent nebbiolo based wine, strong, tannine-rich but with time it shows elegance and fruit. He also produces an interesting Colline Novaresi Vespolina DOC, exclusively from vespolina grapes. Vespolina is only known locally, it is related to nebbiolo and is able to produce excellent wines. But it is always nebbiolo which takes all credits and that is why many wine lovers never heart about vespolina. But try this one and you will be satisfied, an intense, fruity wine, compact tannins, and longevity, maybe even not easy, but worth trying. Most original is Marco´s spumante of vespolina: the first spumante ever of this grape. www.cascinazoina.it
